stormWeather Update -- Storm leaves damage across Nassau
Trees and power lines are down all across Nassau County and a tornado may have touched down in Hilliard from severe storms that moved through the county earlier today. Nassau County Fire Rescue Chief Chuck Cooper said the National Weather Service could not confirm if a tornado actually hit the area where a large oak tree was reported to have fallen on a mobile home. Cooper said Fire Rescue responded to at least two dozen calls in 45 minutes. He said damage was spread across the entire county. Cooper said a portion of Barnwell Road is closed from a tree that has fallen across a power line and is blocking the road. It's another northeaster
Special to My Nassau Sun Scott West, Nassau County Emergency Management coordinator The National Weather Service - Jacksonville has issued a coastal flood warning for Nassau County until 3 p.m. this afternoon, and a coastal flood watch in effect from 3 p.m. this afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. A high surf advisory is in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday. Storm tides through Tuesday will run four to six feet above mean sea level or one to two feet above predicted astronomical tide levels. Tides will be near the levels of the recent northeaster event of October 1-4. This will produce surf seven to 10 feet with moderate beach erosion likely.
