We're going to the dogs!
I’m pleased to announce that My Nassau Sun and mynassausun.com are going to the dogs. And cats. And ferrets. And snakes. And iguanas. And horses. And cherry-headed conures. And whatever pet you love. Starting Aug. 4, we will feature the Pet of the Week in the pages of My Nassau Sun to showcase the photos uploaded to our Nassau Pets gallery here on mynassausun.com. To post your pet photo, just click on “Upload a photo” at the top of the page and add your photo to the Nassau Pets album. Not sure how to get that shot of Rover chasing his tail online? There’s a tutorial at the top of the Share Your Photos page that will walk you through it. “But wait! There’s more!” I write in my best late-night infomercial voice. My Nassau Sun and the Florida Times-Union’s other community papers are sponsoring a Pet Idol contest to support the Times-Union’s Newspaper in Education programs. The program provides assistance to teachers in using newspapers to help students learn about their community while improving their academic skills, including reading, comprehension and critical thinking. Pet photos submitted in the contest — the $10 entry fee goes to NIE —will be published in all the Florida Times-Union community sections beginning Sept. 1. Readers will vote on their favorite pet pic through four rounds of voting to choose the top three pets. Just move your cursor over the Pets menu at the top of the page and you'll see a link to Pets Ido with full information about entering. So, furry, scaly, cuddly, feathered or just plain cute, show us your pets!
