A swinging jazz concert will preview the 2008 Les DeMerle Amelia Island Jazz Festival, Thursday, August 14, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at the historic Palace Saloon in Fernandina Beach. The event, which will benefit the educational programs and concerts of the festival, will feature The Dynamic Les DeMerle Band, with vocalist Bonnie Eisele, along with a very special guest, multi-instrumentalist Dr. Bill Prince. A former player with, among others, Buddy Rich and Clark Terry, Prince is professor emeritus of music at the University of North Florida.

Outdoor Fitness Program -- September Session

OutFIT is an outdoor conditioning and training program for men and women of all levels who want to challenge themselves with new workouts, lose weight, tone up, get stronger, become faster or get in the best shape of their life.  Members train using nature as our "gym" with proven whole-body exercise regimens to develop upper/lower body strength, endurance, core strength, flexibility and agility.  Workouts take place at the beach, the park, the fort and the trails, and each day is always different.  Membership includes daily workout plans, 3 group classes per week, nutritional guidance, fitness testing, fitness education and support, and team adventure days.  All levels, beginners-advanced.  Registration is now taking place for the September session which begins September 2.  Class times are Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings from 6:45-7:45am or 8:30-9:30am, or Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm.  For more details, visit www.PersonalBestSports.net or call 624-0027.  Space is limited.

Amelia Island Art Association will present “Textures—An Exhibition of Fiber Art”, from September 5, 2008 through October 2008 at the Island Art Association Gallery, 18 North 2nd Street, Fernandina Beach.

What is fiber art? According to Diane Hamburg, one of the featured artists, “fiber art includes anything created using fibers from animals or plants, plus synthetic

materials”. She explained that, “today’s fiber artists transform and contemporize tradidional weaving, quilting, and felting, using mixed media techniques”.

The Market features farm fresh produce, pickled seasonal vegetables, freshly baked breads and pastries, jellies, relishes and marinades, desserts as well as a wide selection of plants including orchids and other tropicals, succulents, herbs and garden flower and shrubs.

When: Every Saturday, 9am - 1pm, except we are closed for the Shrimp Festival which is the first Saturday in May.

Where: Corner of Centre Street & 7th Street North in the beautiful downtown historic district of Fernandina Beach. There is plenty of parking available.
